Wow super busy station as it is a major hub and I needed to switch trains. It was cleaner than most that I ran into.
One of the cool things about the station was the mosaic murals on the walls. I was in a bit of a hurry so I did not spend much time checking them out but cool nevertheless
So as a casual user of the MTA system I can imagine that If I had to use it day in day out I may have a different view. The subway is depending on perspective an arduous task OR a fascinating opportunity to test out your directional and navigational skills. The reality is despite all of its downsides it is generally the fastest and cheapest way to roam NYC. Apple maps makes navigating the MTA transit system a breeze.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 50003876720583 aug 2023Bijgewerkte review
MTA 59 Street Station is where I change trains with my daughter when we head to Queens on the R train. We take the 6 train from 96th Street and get off here and change to the R. Lucky for me this week there weren't many people off peak hours. I just keep my head down so I don't trip while following my daughter to the platform. This week was a easy transfer. The stairs were clean. To me it is still a Three Stars rating.

My daughter practically holds me by the hand. We get on the 6 Subway at 96th Street. When we arrive at 59 I race behind her through crowds of commuters. I feel like we turn right and left and up and down stairs. I'm afraid of falling, bumping into someone or being run over by someone.
After that frightening race to the R Train platform we stand shoulder to shoulder on a narrow space. Platforms feel narrow to me at this station. Typically other trains come and then finally the R. By that time I'm glad to sit down!
Even though our return trip is off peak commute time this location is always crowded. It's the same drill going home. I'm finally happy to transfer from the R to the 6 train heading uptown.
You won't see photos of this station unless I can get some soon. I'm most likely going to CCF when my daughter is off Monday on the 17th. With all the commotion at this hub I don't feel comfortable trying to take photos. I might piss someone off. Probably my daughter! Not a good idea cause she's buying lunch!

I didn't find elevators or escalators from the exit to the ground.
There are many exits but if you follow the sign you won't miss it all all. 456 to E& F trains are quite far.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 26 dec 2022Bijgewerkte review
Love the cool art murals on the walls in the lower area where all the stairwells are to get to the 4,5, 6 or N, R, W trains.
It's still a bit grimy here but at least there's some culture to see.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 019 mrt 2011Vorige reviewHere I am in Florida visiting with family this weekend and I am sitting here thinking about the 6 train. Why, you may ask? Because here you have to friggin drive everywhere. Nothing is close by. I actually enjoy just jumping on the subway and having it take me to wherever I want to go.
Number 6 - Swoosh - at 59th street Bloomingdales and all the other stores in this area.
Swoosh - Grand Central.
Swoosh - 28th street - entrance right near where I work.
Swoosh - 14th street Union Square - the market and fun area
Swoosh - Spring Street - quick walk to Little Italy and lower eat side
Swoosh - 116th street the Barrio
Swoosh - 86th street - my hood.
You get my drift. Yes, sometimes it is slow, and can be very crowded during morning and evening commute times, but trains are fairly new and clean overall. Do I want to strangle the A-Hole with his oversized backpack bashing into me in the morning? Sure, but it is something we learn to live with.
Now I have to go and drive 10 miles to the closest gym. Ugh. Miss my number 6 train.2 mrt 2011Vorige reviewAnd now ladieeeeessss and gentlemensssss!!!!
For your viewing and listening pleasure may I present to you a cornucopia of acts brazen and terrifying, mind altering and unbelievable!
First we have the Amazing Fake Blind Guy who will nimbly walk through each subway car from end to end and relieve you of your change.
Next we have have the band of Mexican Caballeros who will serenade you with their loud singing and guitar playing to wake you from your much needed nap after a long work day.
Don't forget the vocal talents of the Doo-Wop Duo who will somehow always manage to make it into your subway car and annoy you for money.
Candy Break. Please support the youngin's selling candy for their sports and/or school trips. M&M's, Starburst, and more, all available.
Back up folks! Now entering is the Break Dancing Fools with their beat box sounds. Don't mind that kick in the face - it's all part of their act!
Here comes the Lady With The Bag. Does anyone want to watch a short movie? We have all the new releases right here, in knock-off casings too! Don't forget your batteries. They look just like Duracells don't they?
Finishing up we have the sweet sounds of the Electronic Horn Man. He will stand in your subway car for the eternity of your ride and play at ear shattering decibels.
Thanks for coming folks! We hope you enjoyed the entertainment this evening. Don't forget to pick up a Churro from the Churro Stand Lady on the way out! - 21 aug 2021
One of the busier stations in the MTA network, perhaps because it serves both BMT Broadway trains as well as IRT Lexington Avenue trains. Yes, you can get the 4, 5, 6 and N, R, and W trains here as well as the F Queens Boulevard Express trains.
The station has multiple levels and is not handicapped accessible to or from any of them. The highest mezzanine level has the ticketing kiosks and turnstiles. There are two tracks here with side platforms that serve the 4 and 6 local trains. A crossunder below that has two more tracks with an island platform that serves the N, R and W trains. And below that, the side platforms for the 4 and 5 trains. Yeah, it's deep as heck and you can transfer here between any of those inside the fare control system.
I was really only looking for "exit" signage and found it, locating a working escalator that brought me to street level. The station is clean and in fine condition. Decently lit and there were a couple of transit cops hanging around. Good.

59th Street at Lexington Avenue is an okay MTA station. It has a good location more than anything. Lots of famous tourist attractions are here. Clean as far as subway stations go. The station is near several cool restaurants and shops.
Clean for the most part. It serves the N, R, W, 4, 5, and 6 Trains. This is a popular station for making a transfer. As such, this is busy. For as busy as this is, it's clean. Close to here are lots of attractions. It's a few blocks from Central Park. A street over, there's lots of upscale shopping on Park Avenue. The area is for the most part safe. It has lots of activity. There's lots of tourists shopping and whatever, and combined with the commuters this place always is packed.
It has a free transfer connection to 63rd Avenue. It recognizes it on your MetroCard. There's no tunnel, you just walk on the there sidewalks a few blocks until you get there.Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Dominik D.Shreveport, Verenigde Staten32059571111627 sep 2021
Do you know what's better about the 59th and Lex station compared to the 53rd and Lex station? Just about nothing. They share few differentiating characteristics.

Very crowded. Lots of delays. Lots of random closures. That can happen anywhere, but seems much more common at this station.

Number 6 Train, you truly move like a snail for local service when you're fully functional, whilst other times you're a dead train who belongs at West Side Yard. You're able to move me from Chinatown's Canal Street to Soho to Union Square to another location of my company in the Upper East Side. You do allievate crowding during rush hour from your brother trains 4 and 5.
Pity you for terminating at City Hall where riders need to connect with the Number 4 or 5 in order to transfer for the A, C, 2, 3, J, M at Broadway Nassau-Fulton Street, which is a nusiance.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bin L.East Elmhurst, Verenigde Staten607307319 nov 2018
This is where I transfer for the 6 after taking the R from Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Ave. I like that the station can have connected to the 4 and 5 express trains.
I only have to take a flight for stairs to get to the 6 after leaving the R trains compared to the Lexington Ave-53rd St station.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
