Note: This review is for a dinner for two that I enjoyed on December 12th, 1990. I just found the bill (55.00 DM) in an old shoe box alongside old family photos and it has compelled me to submit this somewhat belated review of my experience.
What we ate (and drank):
Berliner Weisse mit Shuss: 4.50
Hot Chocolate: 5.50
Soup of the day: 5.00
Broccoli side dish: 6.00
Hubertus (what was that?): 18.50
Wildhack (meat plate, I presume): 15.50
Service fee: 6.75
The ambiance was subdued and rather medieval. Authentic and friendly German waiter who was accommodating and not judgmental of tow young Amerikaner Touristen with limited command of the local dialect.
The food was warm and prompt to arrive. Well spiced, according to local custom. Cloth napkins and table covering. Silverware, I recall, was clean and polished.
We enjoyed the meal in a rather somber mood as we were both rather jet-lagged. The drive back to central Berlin was quick and uneventful.
Overall I'd do it all over again if I could.
