A good size room as I was given an end room so loads of space. It's a shame I was only there for one night as it was a good space to relax in, but one night you sleep wake up and your gone.
Nice art work on the walls and all the amenities you would expect at a hotel, WiFi, ironing board, kettle, mugs, tea coffee etc etc.
The staff on reception were helpful and got me checked in quickly. I was there for a days conference so we also used a meeting room. The coffee machine played music as your coffee was made, a nice touch. There was a little faff getting the laptop connected to the screen but once connected all was good. Nice break out area.
The bar staff were quick and efficient with plenty of staff working not just behind the bar but on the floor as they are still operating table service.
I might have gone 5 stars except for my experience with breakfast the following morning. As part of our package we were able to use our meeting space for breakfast. I was under time pressure and was reassured breakfast would be with us shortly, I heard this for an hour and as I left they arrived with breakfast
Other than that I liked the hotel, it's location is great and the staff were good.
I will definitely use again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel G.Halesowen, Verenigd Koninkrijk382534114 okt 2016
The amount of times I have been to the mal can't believe I Havant done a review!!
I love this hotel and the restaurant ever time I have stayed here or had food it has been amazing. The staff have always been accommodating and friendly . Literally have nothing to fault it on.
If you eat in the restaurant i recommend the chefs table. Which is a selection of cured meats fish and fresh pasta , salad and breads to start. Also the scallops with pea purée its making my mouth water just talking about them they are that good.!!!!
The hotel itself has large spacious rooms one of the most comfortable beds I have ever stayed in ! They also give you a late checkout at 12 which I also love.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jodie H.Birmingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk15407321 apr 2016
By far my favourite hotel in Birmingham!!
Everything about the malmaison screams class and style. The location is pretty perfect to get to places in the centre.
the rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable and very big! The bed was so comfortable. We had breakfast in the restaurant on the saturday which was delicious, putting black pudding in front of me is always going to get you 5 stars! We had the continental breakfast on the sunday which was delivered to our room which we were very happy about as we were not ready to leave the bed!
Overall a brilliant experience and I can not wait to stay again!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Edward D.Birmingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk531263093 mei 2016
The Malmaison is wonderfully located, especially if you are coming into Birmingham from New Street, in the mailbox development. A short walk from most places in town it's a good spot to locate yourself for general tourist activities. It's also solid value for what you get, keep an eye out for offers you can sometimes get a room for a song here.
The rooms are lovely and quiet with large windows letting in plenty of light, the views are ok, if you're higher up you'll benefit from being able to see over a lot of the other buildings in the surrounding area but you are in the city centre so there's plenty of great car parks to look over at.
We stayed in a superior double room which was remarkably spacious with a nice big bed, two chaise lounges and a good size desk with comfy chair. Amenities in the rooms are good, consumables like coffee and shower gel are of particularly high quality and it's nice to see touches like usb chargers in the plug sockets. The rooms could do with a little love however, the dial for the shower in our room had a big section knocked out of it for example.
I had a pretty good night's sleep however it was marred by the fact that the room was simply too hot for my liking and the (very loud, clunky) air conditioning wasn't up to the task of cooling it down enough, I do like a cold room to sleep in though. Mattress on the bed was really nice, just the right balance between firm and soft and the curtains are really heavy, letting in almost no light.
The staff were friendly and efficient throughout, check in and out was extremely smooth, in fact you can just fill out a card and post it in the little postbox at the end of the reception desk to check out without waiting at all.
It's worth noting that the mal also has a good cocktail bar, much better (and better value) than the average hotel and this whole floor (including the brasserie) has been renovated relatively recently so it's not at all tired like some of the other areas.
Breakfast is in the brasserie, which also does a cracking Sunday lunch, and it's a good one. Good quality pastries etc in the continental buffet and then a selection of tasty hot breakfast staples to choose from, a lovely start to the day.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Daniel G.Birmingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk62933125151 mrt 2016
A friend and I recently visited Malmaison for dinner and I really can't fault the quality of the food or service.
I went for the chicken liver parfait for my starter which was light and tasty served with well toasted bread and salted figs. For main I went for a rib eye steak which was beautifully rare served with fried onion and fries. To go with the steak I also went for a bernaise sauce...... and a salsa verde.....I can never decide what sauce to go for so to save disappointment why not order both!
We were offered the dessert menu but after that mountain of food decided that in order to make it out of the door it probably wasn't the best option. Really great meal! I am looking forward to visiting again soon.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 27 nov 2015
Excellent hotel right by two malls. There's also a Starbucks in the lobby. Lobby area is somewhat small though, although there are some seats. There's also stairs that lead up to the bar/restaurant. Room service is also available but I don't remember the hours.
The rooms are spacious and very nice. Comfortable beds and nice amenities including a towel warmer, USB outlets right by the bed, and plenty of snacks and a mini bar.
There's also a Spa here and meeting rooms. An indoor parking garage as well.
I would definitely stay here again.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Kazemaru Y.Honolulu, Verenigde Staten775313714 apr 2016
Only a one night stay but everything was top. The design, cleanliness, service, ambience, comfort level and the spa! Have to admit I was surprised to find this place out here...
Bed room was toooo comfy, super nice beds. I love the design too, the art work the furnishing. Perfect!
Spa - a very classy place. Very nice treatments and staff. A very broad range of services...almost anything you can think of they can deliver...and well.
Restaurant - the food was ok, only two meals so cannot tell. But the staff service was absolute top level. Made me feel so at home.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Holly J.Birmingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk18131108 jun 2016
I went to the launch of Malmaison new 'work + play' space (meeting room and events space) and wow did they throw a party! We were greeted with a red carpet, photographers ('paps' lol) and a glass of champagne.
The space was much lighter and more spacious than previously. The staff were very attentive... But the real showstopper was the food. They put on what I have to say must be the best buffet I have ever seen. Whole suckling pigs, lobster, meats, cheeses, fish, cold cuts... And every mouthful was delicious. It was of very high quality.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Craig G.Birmingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk14112214 sep 2016
This review is only for the breakfast. The evening menu is a five star to me.
But after saying that a 15 pound breakfast is simply outrageous !!!!!
I still can't catch my breath.
The service wasn't great but it was early. Think I'm still fuming after paying that much.
I will go for dinner again as its amazing.
But as for breakfast I'd rather starve.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sophie P.Hove, Verenigd Koninkrijk634414163525 jul 2016Bijgewerkte review
I'm updating my review to give the Mal 5 stars. I've stayed here a few times now and every time has been brilliant. I absolutely love staying here, it's a cut above every other hotel I've stayed in in Birmingham (and I have stayed in many!!)
The rooms are spacious, the beds are so comfy I never want to get out! The staff are always helpful should you need anything - we needed a phone charger, rang reception and one was sent to our room within minutes!
As I mentioned in my previous review, the full sized soaps, shampoos and shower gels are a lovely touch and they smell amazing!
Mal Maison is definitely my favourite hotel. I'll be back soon!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 021 mrt 2016Vorige reviewYou've got to treat yourself sometimes, right? On yet another trip to the land land of Brum I was given the opportunity to stay at the Mal, so I snapped it up!
Situated in the Mailbox, everything about Mal Maison just screams high end, from the entrance, to the restaurant to the actual bedrooms. I was surprised at the size of the bedroom I stayed in, I expected it to be massive, not sure why, I think I just had visions of staying in a palatial sized room - not that I was disappointed, mind! The king sized bed was super comfy and I enjoyed sleeping in it very much.
The bathroom had a bath and shower and came with all the toiletries you might need (full sized ones too!)
Included in the price of the room you could either have a cooked breakfast, or a continental breakfast brought to the room, which we definitely took advantage of. It was like a giant hamper filled with croissants, jam, cereal and a really delicious yogurt with fruit and granola.
I'd definitely stay here again, it beats travelogue any day!
